Welcome From The Principal And Chief Executive

Geoff Fenlon

Welcome to Carnegie Connections!

It gives me great pleasure to invite you, friends and associates of Carnegie’s extended community – former students, business colleagues and supporters, to read what has been happening at the College.

This is my first Carnegie Connections Newsletter and I join the College at what could be best described as an “interesting time”.  I was aware before I took up my position that Carnegie was much more than just a local educational establishment. Its reputation for innovation and dedication in guiding individuals and businesses onto various routes to success was well known to me.  Now, less than one month into my tenure as Principal, I can say that I have found out so much more about the wide impact and reach of the College  - and each day I learn more – and am very proud to be part of such an impressive and successful organisation.

Carnegie is a dynamic and complex organisation, but still at its heart is the learner and the learner experience. Individuals and businesses have benefited from their relationships with the College for over 100 years and I am determined that this will always be the case. In today’s challenging times no business can afford to stand still. Going forward we will build on the solid foundation left by my predecessor, Professor Bill McIntosh, build on the College’s strengths and experience so as to continue to deliver success for individuals, for local and national industries and the communities we serve.

We will ensure the College continues to grow and play our role in the economic development of West Fife, whilst still maintaining a reputation for quality, diversity and integrity.  This will be achieved by being at the leading edge for learning and leading training developments and by working closely in partnership with all our stakeholders.

Indeed I would like to thank our stakeholders and supporters for their excellent contribution in assisting the College in these challenging times.  The various grants, donations and funds have provided much needed income, bursaries and scholarships to allow learners to find their routes to success.  This, when combined with the expertise, knowledge and contacts our stakeholders and supporters willing share with us, is immense and essential. Working together we have a proven formula for success which I hope will continue for many years.

This newsletter will keep you up to date with new developments, new partnerships and new challenges undertaken by staff and students, but we need your support and interest to maintain our place as one of the best organisations in Scotland. I would personally welcome any views or comments you may have on the way forward for the College.

Best wishes
